Blame it on the rain - Heartbreak from Cozy Reads Publishing

Yes, we know the rainy season has started. And no, we dont want you to flood the streets with tears. But we just have to insist you have got to read Heartbreak from Cozy Reads Publishing. What better way to spend a dark and gloomy afternoon than curled up with a good book? We promise you that despite the title, there are a lot of funny stories in the collection. Of course if your eyes well up with laughter, there is nothing we can do about that.

Heartbreak

Whether you are still mending a broken heart or you are now proudly displaying your battle scars, you will surely relate to at least one of the ten stories chosen by four-time Palanca awardee, Celeste Coscoluella.

Sometimes the Ears Dont Fit by Amelia Lapena-Bonifacio Awardee Carljoe Javier explores the pains of love in a fantasy convention. Chinggay Labradors Waxing Poetic reminds us that the first heartache can be amusing (even if its only in hindsight). Leave-taking from Zamboangas Jonathan Jimena Siason shows us that the pains of a broken heart are the same across our countrys islands. E.C. De Los Reyes is almost poetic as she narrates loss in Letters to Joaquin. Sharleen Banzons No Girlfriend Since Birth, written from a guys point of view, has to be read to find out why the strike-through is essential to a story about the last stages of a relationship. Highly Confidential: The Electronic Journal of Ana Banana by Sally Magdiwang gives us a peek into the life of Ana and her unrequited love for her best friend. I.P. Gozes Adios Con Leche! is a funny take on trying to move on and failing miserably. Ana Maria Villanuevas Buried Treasure on Casiana Street is set in the province where carrying a torch for someone is as real as in the city. Resurfacing from Cebus Ryan Ben Gabby Taborada offers a glimmer of hope at the end of all the hurts. Palanca award-winner Faye Ilogons In Bits and Pieces tells of the double whammy of losing a husband and an arm.

If we still havent enticed you with the contents, then go ahead and judge the book by its cover. It looks very sophisticated in a gorgeous purple hue with pretty, shiny parts. The creamy paper is a delight to touch. It can easily fit in your bag or your friends if you decide to give it as a gift. It is so engaging inside and out that the ASEAN Book Publishers Association chose to launch it at the Singapore World Book Fair.

So what are you waiting for? Stack up on Heartbreak for the rainy days. Its a perfect way to cozy up.

Heartbreak is available at Booktopia, Fully Booked, National Bookstore, Powerbooks and A Different Bookstore.

Surprise, surprise: the publishers of Heartbreak are from the good ol’ South. Read our exclusive interview with Cozy Reads’ Sherwil Nuesa (who runs the business with friend and Bene batchmate Emily Cardeo) next!
