Di’ Mark’s - The classic pizza place, now in Alabang!

Di' Mark's Casa Susana

When I used to work for an FMCG (thats fast moving consumer goods) multinational a few years back, I was always plagued with Monday anxiety, and hence the desire to make Sunday nights as stress-free as possible. While I am now working in a much gentler environment, the sentiment has stayed with me, and thus Sunday nights usually find my husband and I eating dinner at one of the many restaurants in the vicinity (I mean, who wants to wash dishes on Sunday night, right?). This past Sunday we decided to check out the newly opened Di Marks here in Alabang.

The place is VERY small. The dining area is on the mezzanine level of the restaurant (right above the kitchen) and can accommodate by my estimate a maximum of 18 people. But its a good kind of small; this is probably the coziest restaurant in the ATC area, the kind where you can have quiet meals and relaxed conversation with family and friends.

Di' Mark's Pizza Pro

We ordered the Pizza Pro small (8, good for 1, P155) which came with homemade anchovies, mushrooms, and pepperoni. It was how I remember pizza in the 80s: neither oily nor soggy, with melted cheddar cheese and a crust with just the right amount of crunch. Their pizzas are also available in medium (13, good for 3) and large (17, good for 5) with flavors running the gamut from Hawaiian (ham, pineapple and mushrooms) to the suffering-from-paradox-of-choice Big 22 with, you guessed it, 22 toppings on one pizza.

Di' Mark's Cheesy Onion Soup

Next came the Cheesy Onion Soup (P130), which was a nice departure from the typical onion soups out there creamy, with mild onion slivers, and chunks of cheese at the bottom where the bread would normally be. Call it onion soup for beginners.

Di' Mark's Spaghetti with Italian Sausage in Tomato Sauce

And since one cannot go to an Italian restaurant and not order pasta, we had the Spaghetti with Italian Sausage in Tomato Sauce (P220) which was reliably good and again, reminiscent of my childhood, having been covered in grated cheddar cheese. Other pasta options on offer include another 15 sauces with spaghetti or fettuccini, and lasagna, ravioli and cannelloni.

Di Marks also has a wide selection of appetizers (the Chicken Croquetas are good, but were sadly out of stock during our visit), plus hero sandwiches, main dishes (for carnivores - fried chicken, beef tapa, spareribs, and the like), and desserts. Drinks are limited to iced tea, sodas, and bottled water.

All in all, reasonably priced, uncomplicated, unpretentious food that hits the spot. Well be back again another Sunday evening.

They also deliver, which might actually be a better option considering the very limited seating available.
