The other day my sister was bewailing the dearth of good cafsreal cafs, the kind that serve both coffee drinks and hot food, preferably on breakable platesin

Thankfully the latter has a fair amount of branches in the South, so we do have real caf options nearby (unfortunately for Dome, the nearest one is in

This is a chain that doesnt feel like one, that stays homey and personal even while maintaining a good level of quality and standardization across its branches (never mind that I recently had an unpleasant experience in the Shangri-La branch that involved finding hairs in my drinks (yes, hairs and drinks) I love the brand anyway).

Apart from the ambiance, Figaro has great food: its simple but rich, with staples like thin crust pizza (love the Garlic and Cheese, P149, and the Five Cheeses, P159), grilled sandwiches (my all-time favorite: the

On the day we had the caf conversation, my sister and I had breakfast at the Palanca branch in Legaspi Village, Makati, another of my favorite branches (yes, I know when you say favorite you generally narrow things down to one, but I have a hard time choosing, hehe).

I had their yummy French Mushroom Omelette (mushroom lover, remember?) and my sister had a generous-looking Croque Madame (both breakfasts at P199). Their breakfast meals come with coffee, which at Figaro is strong enough to wake the dead.

Enjoy our pictures of comfort food at its best. Love, love, love this caf.

After UCC, this is my favorite coffee place.
I love Figaro! I’ve been a Figaro Coffee Club member for years. I work near Podium and my officemates and I are practically stockholders :) Their coffee is not watered down and hits the spot all the time. And the pastries! Yummm…. :)
yeah this place is good. are all figaro’s offers the wifi unlimited thing just if u purchadsed worth P200?
unfortunately, had bad experience here 2x in their branch at Zeta bldg in Makati. Their wifi is busted and on my 2nd try, same thing happened til the manager gave me wiz card acct but a merchant’s copy. I only used it for 20mins instead of 1hr.
When will in festival mall branch open?sana may wifi.
Go south!
Yeah, I love Figaro. :)
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf also serves hot, comfort food. :D Not as diverse as Figaro’s menu, I guess, but yummy still. :)
pinkslife,
not sure about the free wifi, i’ve only noticed the banners recently, and i’m not sure if the south branches have it as well. hmmm… good excuse to go check it out!
les,
yeah sarap din sa coffee bean, but you’re right mas limited sya. love their eggs ben anyway!
mike and kookie,
yeah, go figaro! :)
I love Figaro, that’s why I was so pleased that they opened a branch near where I live, the one near the City Hall. Unfortunately, that particular branch never seems to have my ultimate favorite item on their menu, the carrot cake. I have to go to the Starmall branch for that.
I haven’t tried any of the hot food yet, but now that I’m aware that they have a cheese pizza, I have to check it out soon.
nice cafe.. glad its filipino owned…
love their pasta ala carlo and iced tea!
dea,
the pizza’s small but very good. :) tamang tama lang for a snack or light meal… di pa nakakaguilty, haha (kaso minsan bitin pag gutom ka).
jeff,
yeah, they’re one of the success stories often featured by the entrepreneur magazine… they’ve come a long way!
trisha,
ako naman super miss ko na ang sandwich ala carlo… i guess they use the same ingredients in the pasta… eggplant, salami, pesto, and yummy veg. super laki pa nung sandwich, i used to order one for lunch and have half wrapped for dinner na!
Figaro Starmall in Las Pinas City is just walking distance from our house! This branch opens earlier than the mall and is still open when the mall closes. I used to study here when I am sleepy ( preparing for the board exam 2 years ago). There is a new Figaro in our vicinity and it is just near Perpetual Help Medical Center. There is really a market for coffee lovers despite the presence of Starbucks nearby.
I love every food and bread I ordered from this place. Figaro is really synonymous to fine coffee and food!
i love their BLT and/or the grilled chicken pesto sandwich :D
its nice to hear all of your comments.. it feels so great becoz im working on one of the figaro coffee shops here.
tnx by the way on behalf of the company.. =)
I love figaro, sobrang sarap ng chocolate cake and also the calzone, d siya nakakasawa…
madeline,
yes, the starmall branch is very popular with reviewers and students. :) i haven’t tried the one near the munisipyo, but i gather it’s also quite popular since it’s still around!

Very nice post. Now I really need to go get lunch because this one truly gave my tummy growl!
Hi Betty!
I stumbled upon this post as I was searching for decent photos of the Sandwich ala Carlo to use in my own blog. I was wondering if it would be ok to grab some of your amazing photos, with due credit of course.
My blog, FAME Feasts, is a project of mine with two friends, who chronicle our dining adventures mostly in the Philippines and in New York. We haven’t posted anything yet as the story begins with Figaro, and because the Carlo sandwich is no longer on the menu, I can’t take a photo of it myself!
If you’re ok with this, just let me know how you’d like to be credited.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Hi Patti!
Thanks for letting me know… go ahead and use the photos, maybe you can link back to the site. :) However, these photos are not of the actual Sandwich ala Carlo, since they already discontinued this offering! :( I do miss it sorely. Hope you can find something that fits the bill from the photos above though. :)
Hi, guys! Does anybody here know the recipe for Pasta a la Carlo? I’d like to be able to cook it at home because I don’t live in Manila anymore huhu. I’m guessing the following ingredients: olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, pesto, tomatoes, tuna, olives… Did I miss anything? Promise I won’t use it for commercial purposes. Thank you in advance!
