Welcome to the San Beda Alabang Museum

welcome to the San Beda Alabang Museum

Here’s a quickie announcement that will interest graduates of San Beda College Alabang (Bene to the likes of me who are getting on in years, hehehe), and hopefully non-Bedans as well. Last Thursday, December 12th, the San Beda Alabang Museum was inaugurated and officially opened to the public.

here's the welcoming party

The museum features permanent panels chronicling the history of SBCA, all the way from their roots in Surigao, Arlegui, and Mendiola, to the development of the school in its present location (back when that area was still considered part of Rizal). There is also the International Christmas Cribs Exhibit, a temporary display of various nativity scenes in all sorts of materials, taken from around the world, in keeping with the holiday season (this will run until January 27 next year).

While arrangements are still being finalized for public access to the museum (you have to enter the Alabang Hills gates, after all, before you can get there), residents of Alabang Hills and regular churchgoers and visitors can already drop by to check it out. The museum is open on weekdays from 8 to 5 and from 8 to 12 on Saturdays. (If you’re wondering why this article sounds a bit dry and not at all like my usual effusive posts, I’m trying to be objective here, since I had a hand in the whole thing, hehe; I’ll just let the photos speak for themselves.). You can find out more by calling Mina at 842-3511, or going to see it yourself.

  1. This is, indeed, wonderful news for Bedans! Am intrigued…where exactly is it? And what’s in it, aside from photos of old people and statues of dead people? Hahaha! The statue sa welcoming party - that was the one in the rotonda before, di ba? I always wondered what happened to that one… :)

  2. yep, that’s the one… did you know it’s by the same artist who made the huge mama mary atop the edsa shrine? they kept it outside the chapel for a while after they replaced it at the rotonda.

in addition to the permanent exhibit (which will soon have more artifacts like documents, ids, uniforms, etc, aside from the dead people), there will be various temporary exhibits (like the cribs) featuring all sorts of artwork.

the museum is also being planned as a venue for events like poetry reading, acoustic shows, and other fun stuff. :)

  3. ay, forgot to tell you where it is… it’s in the grade school area, near the registrar; pag pasok mo sa gate 4, enter the lobby and turn right. :)

  4. I am always at Bene and I’ve never heard that a museum was being built/developed! Thanks for the information! Are they publicizing the museum’s existence already? And will it be open during the Christmas break since Beda’s supposed to be a closed campus during this time?
