When I left off with my last post, we were full, stuffed to the gills with fine Italian food from C’, which we did drive around a hundred kilometers to appreciate. (A side story: I Googled the distance between Manila and Clark, and most of the forum answers I found gave the “distance” in terms of time! What a classic example of Pinoy thinking. :) ) Naturally, since we had already made the drive, we figured we might as well squeeze in another blog-favored destination: Cold Spoon frozen yogurt.

I first read about Cold Spoon on Our Awesome Planet, around the time I discovered The White Hat (told you the weekend was blog-driven). The pictures from the site helped me spot it along the road, which was helpful, since we were beginning to wonder if we’d missed it (it’s quite some way down the Friendship Highway which connects Clark to Angeles). It was raining when we visited, so we weren’t able to take too many pictures of the exterior, which is a shame, since this place is really a sight to behold: a small standalone shop, looking like a cross between an igloo and one of those white Greek Mediterranean homes, dedicated to selling frozen yogurt. They even have a drive through lane.

Braving the chilly interiors (which added to the igloo feel), we each ordered some—what else?—frozen yogurt with various toppings: chocolate chips, crushed Butterfinger, and crushed Oreos (prices for plain yogurt: P60 small; P90 medium; P150 large; toppings range from P20 to P25). Their yogurt was pretty good, though not as authentically yogurt-y as The White Hat’s: it felt a bit grainy and its creaminess was more akin to ice cream than actual gooey yogurt. The toppings were also a bit limited in the sense that they were mostly sweets and cookies (though they did have cereal); the fruit toppings were canned, not fresh.

Still, leaving aside all nitpicking about authenticity and healthy toppings, we enjoyed our treats and were impressed with the place. The drive through window was sheer genius—during our stay, a respectable number of cars stopped by for a snack. The location, which seemed obscure to us at first, proved to be just right for folks looking for a pit stop along the trip from Angeles to Clark or vice versa—or for travelers who’d come all the way from Manila. Next time I’m in the area (and we do plan to go back to eat at Zapata’s, hehehe), I’ll probably go out of my way, drive the distance, and get a cup of frozen yogurt to go.
