The Cutest Bazaar in The South

Private Bazaar at Hillsborough on November 22, 2008

We’ve just come from the most adorable bazaar I’ve ever been to: a small Private Bazaar inside Hillsborough Village in Alabang. It’s a one day affair, conceptualized by Menchie Gamboa as a small, intimate alternative to the huge and totally overwhelming bazaars that are so popular this season. The concessionaires have small tents and tables set up on the lawn of Menchie’s (absolutely gorgeous!) house: around 20 vendors in all, a tightly edited group with lots of unique goodies on offer. There are casual clothes from Firefly, matching wallets, agendas, and totes from Olive, dainty bag organizers and pouches from Fiber Mill, adorable leather bookends in animal shapes by Bookmates, a selection of Ikea products, bags, and Brazilian slippers, muscovado sugar products, and cute and cheeky gift items for the happily coupled. There’s also a coffee stand selling Kape ni Juan drinks and pastries, and a vendor selling Jamon Serrano and other preserved meats.

step inside the house...

...and find a bazaar! Surprise!

The bazaar is tiny by comparison to places like, say, Cuenca, and because of this it’s easy to look around and choose gifts without sensory overload. This is the first bazaar they’ve held, and it only lasts until 5PM today, but hopefully they try this again in December. If you’ve got a free afternoon, drop by and have a quick look around. You’ll be enchanted.

  3. Wow! I did visit one of the bigger bazaars in Alabang, well in the Ayala Alabang village itself (I think they do this yearly) back in Nov ‘07. I miss those little shopping places.. very intimate and less stressful. I’d be sure to stop by one of these if I am visiting P.I. during the holidays. Great post.. keep us posted!
