What do you do when you’re vegan and can’t find any commercially available vegan desserts? If you’ve been cooking and baking since you were a kid, and are quite good at it, then you establish your own vegan dessert company! Enter Kitchen Revolution by Marie Gonzalez.
Animal cruelty was Marie’s main concern in making the food switch—reading about the violence and sadistic practices that went on in the meat, seafood, dairy, and egg industries made her search for more ethical food preparation techniques. Marie became vegetarian in October 2007, and in January 2008, became vegan. The transition was made easier by her conviction that it was the logical and more compassionate route to take.
Kitchen Revolution operates right in Marie’s home in Ayala Alabang. Her mission is to make her goodies palatable to non-vegans, who make up the bulk of her clients. She also serves PETA members and clients who are thinking of going vegetarian.
My favorite among her cupcakes are the Almond Rosewater Cupcakes with Rosewater Buttercream.

They are kind of peach in this photo, but they are actually a pretty pink.
As of this writing, I haven’t had a chance to taste all of her cupcakes. I ordered three boxes (P550 per box) with 6 different flavors from a selection of 12 (you get two flavors per box, or they can be distributed so that all 6 different flavors are there),brought them to a birthday party, and watched them practically vanish.
(OK, so I’m exaggerating. One of the guests who didn’t finish his cupcakes was a guy who, along with his wife, went to a vegan resort and got traumatized. But that’s fodder for another entry.)
Marie’s personal favorites among the cupcakes are the Chai Latte cupcakes (a bestseller).

and the Banoffee cupcakes.

Her non-cupcake favorites are: Banana Split Brownies,

Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake,

and Mango Cashew Coffee Cake.

The best feature about Kitchen Revolution, in my opinion, is that they have a semi-ban on white sugar (bravo!). Just let Marie know in advance if you want your cupcake completely white-sugar free. She can use washed sugar and/or brown sugar as a substitute.

I had a few hours before the party but didn’t bother putting them in the fridge because there wasn’t enough space! The cupcakes were still OK.

If you order 3 boxes, you can have 6 of the 12 flavors in any combination you want. From left to right: Red Velvet, Chai Latte, Coconut, Almond Rosewater, Vanilla-Black Chocolate Swirl, and Lemony Cupcakes.
Be sure to check out Kitchen Revolution—healthy and more compassionate eating pleasures right in the South!
Helpful tip: Be sure to order 5-7 days in advance, and specify the time of pickup.
Mode of payment: Bank deposits or cash on pickup (in her home in Ayala Alabang, get the address when you order). Kitchen Revolution can also deliver to Alabang and Makati areas on weekdays for a fee.
Kudos, Kitchen Revolution!
