Adopt a cat through CARA
I’m very proud and happy to announce that we’ve put up a banner ad / link to CARA (Compassion and Responsibility for Animals), a non-profit NGO dedicated to helping the plight of animals in the country. Their main thrust is to educate people regarding animal welfare and the rights of animals; reduce pet (specifically cat) overpopulation by promoting trap-neuter-return programs; and provide quality homes for rescued animals through their adoption program. Our banner mainly promotes the adoption aspect of their advocacy and links directly to their adorable (sometimes heartwrenching) gallery of cats and dogs looking for loving homes.
How can you resist?
Thanks to Rosemary for connecting us to the CARA folks; to Kenn for designing the adorable and motivating banner (when I first saw it I wanted to rush out right then and there and adopt a kitten; unfortunately life (and house) conditions right now prevent me from doing so); and Denise for working this all out.
I first found out about CARA through my sister, who for some time was a regular lurker on their site (I guess you could say she stalked the animals up for adoption; the Angelina Jolie of cats, she now has four pet cats and some-odd number of regulars who drop by for food and kitty companionship). Am glad to finally be able to help promote the cause in this little way; maybe one day I can actually adopt a cat of my own (and be able to take care of it better than I’m probably taking care of myself right now).

I’m sure there are tons of animal lovers out there reading Southbound–if your houses and hearts are open to it, please do consider giving these sweeties a home. Check out the CARA gallery and you’ll find someone to fall in love with, I’m sure.

speaking of cats, mine just gave birth to 4 kits…one died since i think the mom layed on it while it was still giving birth…im seriously thinking of having it neutered now since the tom cat is on the prowl again for her….
